Heroes, Shapes and Eggs - A Five for Friday Catch-All

It was quite the week this week!  Fortunately we were able to finally get outside!  Unfortunately, the full moon hit.  With full force!  Whew!  This teacher is WORN.  OUT.  Here's a glimpse at what we did this week!

The week started with UH-MAZING weather!  After a good workout Monday, my girls and I enjoyed a walk in our neighborhood.  Pulling two kiddos up hill in a wagon is SUCH a good workout!  :)

On St. Patrick's Day, we had a lot of fun!  We made an anchor chart of things we thought were worth more than gold.  Look what my sweet babies came up with.  Aren't they the sweetest?  For a look at what else we did for the holiday, check out this post. 

On Wednesday, our grade level hosted a parent involvement activity we called "My Hero and Me!"  Students could invite a 'hero' (grown up) to come play with them at school!  

We set up a variety of centers and activities that our students do throughout the day for the students to play and do with their grown up.  The kiddos LOVED sharing what they know and can do with their hero!  What a great opportunity for families to share in their learning!

This week we started studying 3D shapes.  Honestly I LOVE teaching 3D shapes.  Kids are always so drawn to them and have so much fun exploring them.  Thursday we worked on getting to know our shapes.  

We first compared 2D and 3D shapes.

Then we used a ramp to see if the shapes could stack, roll and slide.

We even made an anchor chart!  (Not fancy, but it works!)

At recess, students began noticing different shapes on the playground so I sent them on a challenge to find as many shapes as they could.  They had me running all over the playground looking for shapes!  I got quite a workout!  LOL.  Their excitement was totally worth it though!  Look at the great things they found!

Finally, we started our nursery rhyme unit.  One of the nursery rhymes we read was Humpty Dumpty.  We highlighted all of our sight words in the poem, then used the poem to discuss some "sight word magic".  They did so well!

We also did a little cause/effect experiment using our friend Mr. Humpty here - isn't he cute?!

We built a wall and sat him on top...

And then we let poor Mr. Humpty fall!  Poor guy!

We then did some cause and effect, before and after drawing.  They had so much fun drawing him!  The faces they gave him were so funny!
